2. PURPOSE OF THE JOB: 

Briefly state the purpose of this position in a few sentences that capture the reason this position exists

 

  • Setup/takedown/moulage/programming of requested simulations, ensuring that desired outcomes of simulations are achieved.
  • Support the Simulation Technology Specialist in providing vital technical support and expertise for simulation operations to include preparation, maintenance and repair of complex computerized, high-definition manikins/associated software, and the efficient operation of the data capture systems, related multimedia peripherals, validating data collected during scenarios.
  • Oversees/participate in the setup/takedown of requested practice lab sessions.
  • Oversees/participate in providing operations/maintenance/repair of low-fidelity to high-fidelity task trainers.
  • Maintains the inventory and auditing of the simulation/skills lab equipment and disposable supplies utilizing a computerized system.

 

3. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DUTIES

 

Simulation Support (40%)

 

  • Provide setup/takedown/moulage of requested simulations.

  • Participate in daily huddles with the simulation staff

  • Program, test and run simulation scenarios for faculty facilitators, assuring that the facility, equipment and supplies are set up appropriately and that desired outcomes will be achieved; interpret and implement changes when necessary.
  • Consult with faculty on appropriateness of simulations to achieve learning outcomes.
  • Consult with faculty and staff to ensure accuracy of scenario documents.
  • Analyze simulations and decide equipment and moulage needed.
  • Provide training/support/consulting to faculty and other simulation center staff in the technical aspects of simulation.
  • Contribute to the development of simulation center mission, vision, core values, policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Provide tours/demonstrations/trainings/forums about simulation and simulation technologies Provide support and assist with other special projects or initiatives as needed.

 

Equipment, Software & Program Maintenance Support (20%)

 

  • Oversees/participate in providing operations/maintenance/repair of low-fidelity to high-fidelity task trainers.
  • Assist with technical support/maintenance for digital audiovisual hardware and data capture system to record simulated sessions.
  • Assist with technical support/maintenance of hi-fidelity computerized manikins. 
  • Assist with installation of software and hardware upgrades.
  • As needed, interface with the equipment manufacturers (manikin and data capture) regarding equipment troubleshooting and system problems; maintain record of repairs.

 

 

Inventory, Records and Data Management (20%)

 

  • Order, distribute and audit disposable inventory of sim/practice lab supplies using a computerized system.   

  • Assist with the management of records and data within the simulation center including learner and facilitator evaluations, usage statistics, equipment specs and documentation. 
  • Keep records to maintain budgeted amounts for supply purchases.

     

Physical maintenance and daily operations of practice lab space (10%)

  • Oversee practice laboratory assistant’s setup/takedown of requested practice lab sessions.

  • Provide input in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures relevant to the use and function of the practice labs.

     

Training & Development (10%)

  • Keep apprised of emerging technologies affecting simulation and data capture.
  • Ensure that knowledge and expertise in the use and operation of different simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models and task trainers to screen‑based simulations to full body patient simulators is up-to-date

  • Maintain current knowledge of practice laboratory and simulation resources.

  • Research new innovations.

  • Provide recommendations and training for new resources as needed.

  • Provide training/support/consulting to faculty and other staff as needed.
  • Participate in technical training.
  • Maintain membership in professional simulation operations organizations.
  • Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, mission, vision, core values and best practices.

 

 

4. BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible for managing, scheduling, and evaluating the Practice Laboratory Assistant (classified position).

7. DECISION MAKING:

  • Will determine with little or no direction how to best implement processes, systems and protocol to result in a successful simulation scenario.  Must determine if results and data captured is in keeping with the desired results and if not, identify at what point the error occurred and reconfigure accordingly.
  • Will evaluate and physically set-up simulation sessions with equipment and supplies appropriate to the type of simulation that will be occurring.  Ensure that attention to detail is taken in order to mirror real-life situations for the student experience.   
  • Must be able to think critically, identify problem(s), troubleshoot and take action to resolve issues in a fast-paced environment.
  • In consultation with faculty, this position makes decisions/recommendations on which disposable supplies are to be purchased to meet the learning objectives for the practice labs.
  • In consultation with faculty, this position will make decisions about how to most effectively setup the practice lab space to meet the learning objectives designed by faculty.

  • Healthcare experience/knowledge – LPN, CNA, EMT, MA, or similar credential, or equivalent demonstrated experience.

 

 

4. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to occasionally lift approximately 80 pounds up to 3 days a week for short periods of time.

  • Must be able to carry this weight for approximately 10 to 15 feet when needed. 

  • Occasionally will need to lift 80 pounds above shoulder level and able to lift 80 pounds from knee level.
