Art & Design Study Program in Japan

Sample Itinerary (see Gallery link on the left for photographs of program)

 

 

Day 1–Friday-Saturday

Early morning flight to San Francisco. Travel from San Francisco to Nagoya. Take a bus to Togo Town to meet host families. Student are placed with their designated host families.

 

Day 2–Sunday

Rest and spend time getting to know host families.

 

Day 3–Monday
8:30am meet at Akaike station and go to Nagoya Zokei University of Art and Design for exhibition preparation. 
 

Day 4–Tuesday

8:30am meet at Akaike station and go to NZU for exhibition preparation. 
The BSU student exhibition opening is at 12:20PM in the student gallery.

1pm-4pm Japanese Painting class with Professor Watanabe

4-5pm English conversation class with NZU students


Day 5–Wednesday

8:30am meet at Akaike station. Mie Prefectural Art Museum “Women In-Between: Asian Women Artists 1984-2012”

1pm-4:00pm Japanese Painting class with Professor Watanabe

 

Day 6–Thursday

8:30am meet at Akaike station. Visit the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art, Noritake Gardens or Toyota Automobile Museum

1pm-2:30pm Japanese Painting class with Professor Watanabe

Professor's lecture 2:30-3:50PM.

Day 7–Friday

8:30am meet at Akaike station. Visit to the Nagoya City Museum.

1pm-2:30pm Japanese Painting class with Professor Watanabe

 

Day 8–Saturday

Free day with host family.

6:00pm-8pm (Evening party with host families)

 

Day 9–Sunday

Free day with host family.

6:00pm-8pm (Evening party with host families)

 

Day 10–Monday

8:00am meet at Akaike station to catch bullet train to Kyoto. Meet our gude Katsuko Sawaii at 10:30am and take bus from Kyoto station to hotel. From hotel go to Nijo Castle. Lunch and then Nishijin Kaikan for Kimono show. Kinkaku-ji temple, Ryoanji temple and bus to hotel.

 

Day 11–Tuesday

9:30am meet our guide Katsuko and tak the bus from hotel to Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art, Fureai-Kan Museum, Kiyomizu temple. Return to hotel for luggage and then take the the bus to catch the bullet train station to Nagoya.

 

Day 12–Wednesday

8:30am meet at Togo Ikomai-Kan and go to Mino Machi a town known for hand made paper (washi.) Visit Mino Washi Museum and tour the museum and participate in paper making workshop. Visit old merchant house and free time for shopping in old part of Mino.

Day 13–Thursday

8:30am meet at Akaike to take train to Seto City to tour and walk the pottery road. Visit the ceramic museum and free time for shopping.

5:00PM return to NZU for farewell Party.

 

Day 14–Friday

8:30am meet at Togo town to take cars to Arimatsu City to tour Shibori Kaikan (tie-dying museum). 
After museum and a tour of the town studets participate in a tie-dyeing workshop. (Cost $13-16)

1:00PM return to NZU to take down and pack exhibition for shipping.

Day 15–Saturday

11:00am everyone meets with host families together and say good bye and we depart for Nagoya Airport. Flight from Nagoya to Narita airport and then to San Francisco. Take flight from San Francisco to Boise.
