Drogue Release/Drop Test

In order to be confident that the drogue parachutes would release and successfully deploy the main parachutes a test was devised that consisted of setting up the drogue parachute lines as if the rocket was actually going to fly.  A small amount of black powder and e-match was inserted into the tender descender and the drogue lines attached.  Then, the drogue lines were secured overhead with the rocket suspended approximately 6 feet off of the ground. This simulated the rocket descending under the drogue parachutes.  Then using a 9 Volt battery, the e-match was ignited and the rocket was allowed to fall to the ground.  This test proved that the drogue chutes would successfully deploy the main parachutes and that the rocket would survive its touchdown.
