The high power rocket contains a large amount of explosive energy. As engineers, we need confidence in all systems of the rocket before a launch. If parts are incorrectly designed or manufactured, people and property can be put at risk.
During the first launch attempt, issues with the electrical system caused the launch to be scrubbed. This was frustrating due to the anticipation we had to see the rocket fly, plus the wasted time of many people who had dedicated their Saturday to come watch the launch. Instead of trying to force a solution, we had to take time to complete more testing and understand the problem.
These skills are useful for future work. Public safety should be the priority when completing designs. These types of ethical decisions can be difficult to make, especially when there is a high profile project with lots of anticipation built up around it.
