Hello, my name is Whitney Kerr. I first started at Boise State right after high school, I worked part time while going to school; it was not easy but I made it work. In the spring of my sophomore year I met the handsome man above. We had a whirlwind relationship, we met and were engaged within 3 months. We were so excited to start a life together, but sadly he was deployed to Iraq. After 15 months he finally came home, and shortly after we found out we were pregnant with our first son.

In May 2012, we had Kolby James Kerr, at this point I had stopped school and was working full time. After Dean got home from Iraq it took him a while to decide on a career, something that would give him just as big of an adrenaline rush as Iraq. He decided on becoming a lineman, the first step was going to school in Meridian, Idaho. After he graduated school, he was offered a job in Arizona, because we did not know how things would go, I moved back home to Seattle. Shortly after the move I found out I was pregnant again, with our second boy.

In August 2013 Kyler Ray Kerr was born and I became a stay at home mom to two sweet little boys. When Kyler was 3 months old Dean had two guys he worked with die while on the job, it was at that point he decided to find an apprentice job with a utility company. I tell you all of this because my husband is the reason we now live in Craig, Alaska. He was offered an apprentice job on Prince of Wales Island, so in April 2014 we packed up both of our vehicles and made the long drive through Canada followed by two long ferry rides.

Two days after arriving on the island I shattered my ankle. I had one surgery in Ketchikan, followed by 5 more. When it got to the point that they were talking about amputating, I went down south and had a 6th surgery. While south I was placed into an external fixator which is a fancy word for a huge metal cage. It took about 4 months in the cage and another 2 in a walking boot before I could start walking again. After two years in a boot or cage I celebrated by participating in an 8 man relay team for our local Marathon.

Since living in Alaska I have overcome so much and as I was thinking about that one night watching my husband study for one of his apprentice tests, I thought "why can't I go back to school?" So the following day I started making calls and sending emails and in the summer of 2016 I started back at Boise State University as a MDS student. I hope to not only graduate with a BA in Multidisciplinary Studies and a minor in Business Bridge to Career, but do so with all A's and B's by the fall of 2018. I am not sure where I see my career heading in the future, but I do know that one day my kids will see that diploma on the wall and see that I never gave up on my dreams.

Here are a few things I like to do for fun:

I love spending time with my family

I enjoy hunting and fishing, living in Alaska allows for the opportunity to fish and hunt almost all year long.

I enjoy lazy days watching movies in my pajames, although they are few and far between they are my favorite.

Last but not least, Reading. I love reading a good book, Lani Lynn Vale is one of my favorite authors, if you have not read her, I highly suggest you do so.

I like to think I am laid back, funny, outgoing, and sarcastic, I enjoy making people smile and being somone they can always count on and I hope to continue to be that in the future.
